St. Peter Council 7070
From its Charter night on March 10 1978
The Council members are active in all church ministries and in both Parish Councils. Other activities include, monthly assistance with a seniors bingo at Shepherd’s Care, a monthly pancake breakfast in MacNeil hall, Christmas Hamper Deliveries to the needy, a basketball and soccer freethrow, readings of the Way of the Cross during lent, a living Rosary after selected weekly masses, a yearly memorial mass and with the help of the Nazareno Council, the selling of Grocery and Gas Cards to raise funds for our capital projects building fund.
Though the members are all men and the meetings are closed, the Knights of Columbus is not a secret or men’s club. Family members are encouraged to participate in all council activities. St. Peter council strongly supports this view as families are very important to the council. The council gives men the opportunity to be with other men that have similar values and helps define the roll of men in today’s families and society.
In 1981 a Columbus club was implemented. This is an arm of the Knights of Columbus that can raise substantial amounts of money to be given to various charities. St. Peter’s Columbus club tries to support local charities that are not main stream charities. Camp Nakamun, Our Lady of Victories camp and the Marion Centre are regular beneficiaries.
Our council pin causes alot of interest. It is a St. Peter’s cross which is ‘upside down’ compared to the Cross of Jesus. This is because legend has it that St. Peter was crucified upside down. It was designed by one of the founding members, Fred Rumsey.
