The Body of Christ
These words, which express the gift of the Blessed Eucharist, and also the name of the parish community of Corpus Christi, lie at the heart of our community. It is the Mass, the most common gathering of a faith community, where the Eucharist is most typically celebrated, at which we receive the Body of Christ. As well, our obedience to God's word that we receive His body to 'do this in memory' of Him is to a great extent the beginning of our responsibilities as a community of God.
The Parish Pastoral Council of Corpus Christi, in consultation with its parishioners, declare this document to be the Mission Statement of the parish; in full understanding that this is a living document, one which should be regularly reviewed, re-inspired, rethought, rewritten, and relived.
We ask God's grace to do God's will. Our parish exists to serve God, to serve its parishioners, and to serve the community.
We serve God by prayer, learning His teaching, living that teaching.
We serve the parishioners of Corpus Christi parish by ministry, reaching out to the community, living the example of our faith.
By 'community', we understand our responsibility to those in the geographical area of Corpus Christi parish who may not be directly part of the parish. We also understand our responsibility to the world as a community of God, and that we have a place within that community to demonstrate our love of God and commitment to living His word. We do this by evangelizing, giving, acts of service, welcoming others, helping the poor and ill.
